Edward Borschneck Obituary

Edward Michael Borschneck (December 15, 1938 – February 15, 2024)

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Michael Borschneck announces his peaceful passing at the age of 85 years, with his family by his side, on February 15, 2024 at the Unity and District Health Centre.

Ed was born December 15, 1938 in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, the youngest child of Ottilia and Ignatz Borschneck. Ed grew up on the family farm near Broadacres, Sask. Ed married Ann Marie Bohn of Tramping Lake on February 24, 1968 and had two sons born on September 19, 1968. After a brief stint in Saskatoon working at Patrick Dodge, Ed and Ann Marie returned to the farm and took over from his dad where they farmed until 1975, when they moved to Unity. After a short time at the Delta Coop as fuel truck driver, Ed started his career at the Town of Unity in the Maintenance Department from which he retired after 20 years. Never one to sit still, he started another working career as a pump jockey at the Delta Coop C-store, working for Slim’s Excavating as equipment operator and various farmers in the area including his buddies George Sherwood and Ken Bast, the Houser’s and Dr. William Doyle. He was also a handyman for Jean Doyle.

Ed seemed to be able to create anything out of anything he had laying around the acreage. He was the prototypical “jack of all trades, master of none”. Nothing made him happier than tinkering around the acreage or helping his boys build or fix something around their places, which included but was not limited to, new house construction supervision, multiple workshops and garages, storage sheds, decks and retaining walls. He will truly be missed for his wisdom and enthusiasm to get stuff done.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ann Marie and sons Brad (Christine) and Brent (Joanne) and granddaughters Eilish Borschneck (Austin) and Abbey Borschneck. He will also be remembered by many in-laws and nieces and nephews too many to list. He loved them all.

The family would especially like to thank Dr. Williams, all the nurses, the support staff and Tanya Swarbrick for their devoted and compassionate care in Dad’s last days.

At Ed’s request there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers and cards, tributes may be directed to the Unity Health Care Foundation: Box 719, Unity, SK, S0K 4L0.

Cards may be directed to Brent Borschneck: Box 206, Bethune, SK, S0G 0H0. Arrangements entrusted to Gerein Funeral Service.
