Alice Evelyn Rutley

Born at Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, Alice lived on the farm in the Alfred district and attended the Alfred country school until her tenth year when her family moved to Rossland, British Columbia.  She moved back to Cut Knife as a young woman and married the love of her life, Robert Rutley on July 23, 1954.  Alice was a loving wife and mother.  As a school bus driver, she drove many of her nieces and nephews and she always had a jawbreaker for the bus kids (and all the other kids who stopped and asked) at her bus on Friday afternoons.  She was a loyal member of the Royal Purple and the Legion Auxiliary serving close to seventy years.  She enjoyed spending time with family & friends, fishing, curling, bowling, tatting, knitting and the Blue Jays.  Alice is survived by her children:

Rob (Marilyn) Rutley, children: Alana (Thomas) Grieco; Marlo (Kris) DeVouge; Kyla Rutley, children: Clementine, Euphemia & Adeline;

Susan Kraft (Bob Dillon), children: Cody Dillon; Sabrina Kraft, son Christopher; Shawn (Kaley) Kraft, children: Daxon, Ellie, Tylan & Lexie; Danielle Dillon, daughter Lilirae; Joanna Kraft (Scott Walsh);

Dave Rutley, daughter Andrea Rutley (Cam Wowk); daughter-in-law Jessica Rutley;

Shelly Bretzer, children: Danielle Bretzer (Justin Keller), children: Korben Bretzer, Summer, Jaxon & Luke Bretzer-Keller; Sean Bretzer, children: Dezmin & Maverick; Kendall (Shawn) Fletcher, their children: Samarah, Seanna & Savannah;

Brother: Norman Flanagan; Sisters: Beverly DeRosa & Beatrice Robertson; Sisters-in-law: Annette Johnson and Denise Flanagan; Brothers-in-law: Cal McKerracher, Gordon DeRosa, and Don Rutley along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. 

Alice was predeceased by her soulmate and husband of almost 66 years, Robert; her parents: William and Bertha Flanagan; her brothers: Murray, Glen, Les & David; her sisters Gay & Gladys; her grandson, Orion; Sisters-in-law; Betty Flanagan, Margaret Flanagan, and Joan Flanagan; Brother-in-law: John Morris;

Robert’s parents, Edgar (Mac) and Johanna (Jo) Rutley; Brother-in-law, Baillie Rutley; Sisters-in-law, Mariane Rutley & Judy Rutley and numerous extended family members. 

A celebration of life will be held on June 6, 2026, with details to follow at a later date.
