Angela Freson passed away on December 12, 2023 in Unity, SK. Angela Regina Vetter-Freson was born on November 11, 1935. She was the last born and the last surviving, of a family of 6 brothers (George, Alois, Adam, Alphonse, Balzar and John), one of whom passed away as a young boy (Alois), and 3 sisters (Helen Vetter, Margret Zimmer and Mary Sorge). She grew up on the farm but the family moved to town when she started high school.
She was trained to become a telephone operator with Hilda and eventually took over after Hilda retired. She lived and worked in a small house on the main street in Denzil, where all the telephone equipment was installed. After the telephone office was moved to a one room space, she trained a few local girls to help out with shifts. When the Denzil office closed, she worked at Tramping Lake and finally at Macklin until they too, closed.
After finishing her work as a telephone operator, she studied to became a Teachers Aide and then was employed at the Denzil Sacred Heart School where she stayed for many years.
In 1969 her mother, who she had been helping to look after, passed away. However, she was also still helping to look after her father and a niece (Georgina, who had come to live with family in 1956). Her father eventually moved into the Macklin Seniors Home where her sister Helen was employed as head cook; and after her niece graduated and moved to Calgary, she finally married the love of her life Ted Freson.
They loved gardening and entertaining family and friends. They never had any children together but many nieces and nephews were always around to fill that gap. Angela was also involved with the CWL for many years, and was a devout Catholic.
After Angela retired, they decided to move into a Seniors Apartment in Lloydminster to be closer to shopping facilities and doctors. They also liked not having to look after a yard and house and enjoyed being part of the seniors community and activities. However after many happy years together, Ted passed away in 2009.
Angela temporarily moved in with her sister Helen, who lived in Macklin. Soon after, she got her apartment in Unity. After a bit of coaxing, her sister Helen moved into the same apartment building and they kept each other company until Helen had to move into a long term care facility in Wilkie.
Angela loved visits with her family and friends or long telephone conversations when visiting wasn’t possible. She loved reading and staying in touch with world news and when she was younger, she played the accordion, pump organ and loved singing. She also enjoyed the daily visits with her Care Aids, until she finally passed away peacefully in her sleep. She will be missed by many.
A Funeral Service for Angela will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 2:00PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Denzil, SK.
