Anna Freda Dyson

October 27, 1927 – January 22, 2024

Anna Freda (Rische) Dyson passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024 at the age of 96, surrounded by her loving family at her bedside.

Freda was born on October 27, 1927 at her family’s homestead in Luseland, Saskatchewan. She is the daughter of Herman and Emma (Weirhake) Rische. Freda farmed with her family until she later met and married the love of her life, Andrew “Andy” Dyson in Okotoks, Alberta in 1951. Thereafter, they started their new family journey in Calgary with Andy working for Union Dairy and welcoming 3 children, Ruth (1953), Gerald (1955) and Carol (1959) until relocating back to Luseland and taking up farming. Freda was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always looked forward to having her family over to cook their favorite meals or baking.  She was a vibrant part of the Luseland community whether it be her Royal Purple nights or her playing cards down at the Luseland Pioneer Club. Andy and Freda then retired to Unity, Saskatchewan in 1999 where she remained after Andy’s passing for many years until she moved to spend her final few years closer to family in the mountains of Kelowna, British Columbia. One could not meet Freda without noticing her smile, giggle and her general love of life. Her nickname “Crazy Freda” beautifully captured her energy. She enjoyed the outdoors and her time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all their furry companions.

Freda is survived by her children: Gerald (Tammy) Dyson and Carol Sherman; Grandchildren: Dan Wandler, Denise (Jay) Allen, Ashley (Aly) Dhala, Jamie Dyson and Anthony Dyson; Great grandchildren: Austin Allen, Colton Wandler, Jaden Allen, Alexis Wandler, Amara Dhala and Anjali Dhala; Sister-in-law: Aileen Ohlsen; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Freda is predeceased by her husband Andrew Dyson (1999); daughter Ruth Wandler (2020); son-in-law Ken Wandler (2016); and grandchildren Steven Dyson (1981) and Allison Dyson (1984); as well as numerous brothers, sisters and extended family.

A graveside service for Freda will be held Friday, September 20, 2024 at 10:30AM at the Luseland Cemetery in Luseland, SK.  A celebration of life will be held for family and friends afterwards from 2PM - 4PM at the Unity & District Heritage Museum in Unity, SK. In lieu of cards and flowers, we kindly ask you to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan in the memory of Freda.
