Carolyn Harluk Obituary

Carolyn Fay Harluk was born on March 1, 1947 to Ann and Ben Riley, she was the youngest of 4 daughters and was followed by a brother 5 years later.  She grew up in the Wilson Lake area, attending Wilson Lake School and later took the bus to Sonningdale until school graduation. She moved to Saskatoon and attended Teachers College. Her first teaching job was in Fort St. John, after which she moved to Vancouver Island.

She spent many summers in university obtaining her teaching degree. She taught in Tahsis, BC where she met and married Barry Lutvey of Queensland, Australia in 1968. They moved to Zeballos, BC on the north side of the island where they taught until the marriage dissolved and Barry returned to Australia.

About 1975 Carolyn moved to Kamloops where she taught school until retiring in 2002. During that time, she took a year’s break from teaching and drove semi, sometimes hauling cattle but mostly chips from the sawmill to the pulp mill.

She married Al Harluk in 1997 and as they were both originally from the prairies, they decided to move back home. About this time Al changed the spelling of his last name. They developed an acreage adjacent to the Riley homestead.

Al passed away in 2007. Carolyn stayed on the acreage until October of 2020 when she moved to Biggar. She passed away on April 30, 2022 after a long illness.

She is survived by sisters Ethel Liska, Mildred Fast, June Riley and brother Delmar Riley (Gwen); brother-in law, Melvin Hawryluk (Shelly) and sister-in-law Bea Hawryluk: nieces and nephews Tim Liska (Karen), Marc Liska, Arla Liska (Jim), Aaron Fast (Kathy), Barry Fast (Jodi), Carmen Krawec (Larry), Angie Hawryluk (Kevin), Dwayne Hawryluk, Trevor Hawryluk, and Clayton Hawryluk (Deanna): 16 great nieces and nephews and six great-great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Allan Harluk (2007); two stepsons, Gary Hawryluk and Glenn Hawryluk, parents, Ben and Ann Riley, brothers-in-law Victor Hawryluk, Tony Liska and George Fast; 4 nieces and nephews in infancy.
