Clarence Proctor Obituary

Clarence passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the age of 91 years. Clarence was born on June 1, 1931 in Wilkie to Percy and Mary Proctor. He lived on the family farm until the death of his father in 1944. The family then moved to rural Saskatoon. He completed his high school there and one year later obtained his teaching certificate.

He taught in one room schools early in his career and it was at this time that he met the love of his life, Sheila. In 1955, Clarence and Sheila were married and three years later they moved to Biggar.

Over the next 28 years, Clarence taught Phys. Ed to hundreds of children. He also coached football, volleyball, basketball, badminton and track and field teams. As if he wasn’t busy enough, he was soon volunteering many hours for the Biggar Nationals baseball team.

On the home front, Clarence kept busy as well. He and Sheila had five children; Debbie, Don, Diane, David and Darlene over the next six years.

Clarence always wanted to move back to the farm and in 1983, they purchased the land west of Biggar. Together Clarence and Sheila built the home they had always dreamed of.

Clarence retired in 1986, pursuing other interests immediately after. Farming and raising his own livestock, turkeys, chickens, pigs and cows. The grandkids took turns naming the cows over the years. He also tended to his ever-expanding garden.

A part time job driving the school bus allowed him to stay in touch with school children and activities and being with his grandchildren on the bus daily, put a smile on his face.

Many happy memories were made when the family gathered at the farm, during the holidays and on our annual Waterhen or Turtle Lake camping trips.

Clarence enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, a good ball game, a homemade piece of pie, buns and especially holding Sheila’s hand.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Sheila; children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Debbie Ross and family Jerri (Lee) Gusikoski, Gracyn, Lane, Rhett and Hayes, Jolee (Curtis) Ross and Rexley, Jesse Ross, Jeani Ross, Jodie Ross;

Donald Proctor (Bonnie) and family Boyd (Sarah) and Maddie, Brandon (Mallory) Kylah and Clay; Diane Learmonth (Scott) and family Robin (Cory) and Troy,

Bruce, Angelica and Conner; David Proctor; Darlene Proctor (Pierre) and Chloe;

Clarence was predeceased by his father Percy and his mother Mary, five brothers, one sister and his grandson Kim Proctor.
