Edwin Herman Reiniger Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin Reiniger. Ed passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025 at the age of 93 in Unity, SK. Ed is survived and remembered by his loving wife of 67 years, Eva and their children; Bonnie (Albert) Stabbler, Jennifer (Brendan), Brooke and Riley, Jamie (Shaun) Lucas and Mason, Janelle (Vern) and Kip; Rick Reiniger (Sally); Betty (Terry) Sopyc, Tyson (Jessica), Addisyn and Kaylee, Trina (Brandon); Trevor Reiniger (Tammy) and Reece. He is also survived by his sister Theresa Volk and many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary, siblings and in-laws; Philip (Agnes), Joe (Rose), Margaret (Richard), Tony (Dorothy), Peter, Bennie (Julia), Marie (Peter), Sister, Rosetta and brother-in-law Peter Volk.

Ed grew up on the John Reiniger family farm near Denzil, SK and attended Gottlob and Denzil schools. After school he farmed and lived with his brother, Peter.

Ed was introduced to his future wife Eva, through his sister, Rosetta. Ed and Eva were married on October 14, 1957 at St. John’s country church. They then took over the family farm together where they lived for many years and raised their 4 children. The farm was his favourite place in the world and holds many memories for family, friends and neighbors. Many of his nephews would come out to the farm and learn to drive from their Uncle Ed. Throughout the years, Ed had many hired men working for him on his farm. These men became more like family and have stayed lifelong friends.

He loved animals, especially horses and dogs. There was always a dog or two by his side while out in the yard. He had many dogs over the years, Shep, Bless and Buddy to name a few. He was gentle and patient with them, often speaking to them in German.

Ed also loved watching and playing sports, baseball being his favourite. He played ball while he was in school.  The New York Yankees were his favourite team, and his grandchildren have fond memories of playing catch with him in the yard during the summer. He was recently gifted a Yankees ball cap which he treasured.

One of Ed’s favourite pastimes was to listen to Wilf Carter records from his collection on his vintage record player. Ed and Eva often had company over at all times of the day. Many visits and card games (like Buck) were played for hours at their kitchen table with friends, neighbors and relatives. If the walls in the farm house could talk, they would tell many stories!

Harvest was his favorite time of year and he enjoyed thrashing for hours. He also loved when his grand children would come to visit during summer holidays, most Christmas’s and Easter. He would be waiting for them in the porch when they pulled up and always have a $5 bill ready to sneak into their hands as they left, a favorite memory of theirs to remember him by.

Ed will be remembered by everyone who knew him as a kind, gentle, quiet and faithful man.

At his request, a private graveside service will take place at a later date.
