Halstead, Fay Norene
January 25, 1927 - October 18, 2022
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt and friend to all, Fay Halstead. She will be missed. Mom died peacefully after a brief illness.
Fay was born in Rosthern, Sask. and moved to Unity when her father purchased Producers Creamery. Following her graduation as a nurse, from the Royal Alex in Edmonton in 1948, she nursed in Elk Point, AB. and Unity SK. She married Stan Halstead in 1950 who predeceased her in 1985. She leaves sister’s Dawn & Sylvia; children Bill (Janice), Doug, Diana (Perry), Maureen (Dennis); grandchildren Gemma, Russell, Mark and Hanna, and great-grandchild Kenneth. She also leaves to mourn her close friends the Briggs family. She also enjoyed special friendships with Bill Coleman and Mel Briggs.
Fay was the hub of her family and friends - the cook and social convener evidenced in part by her hosting of the Stuart family cousins’ reunion, which gathered family from Ireland, England, Canada and the US. She was also well known, in her later years, for hosting a crib tournament on her birthday. Mom was active in the Eastern Star, the Nurses Club and for playing the organ at the Anglican Church. She could knock off an impromptu skit for whatever social gathering when required. Mom lived independently, cooking for herself and contributing to potluck meals for social groups she attended.
There will be no service by her request. A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Doctors without Borders, Stars Air Ambulance or donor’s choice.
The family appreciates all the support and assistance from Unity and Luther Place residents.
