Freda Helen Young

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our precious mother, grandmother & auntie, Freda Young on Dec. 27, 2023 at Saskatoon City Hospital, with her family at her side. Mom leaves to morn: Marlene (+Brian), Lorna (Garry), Lorne (Shirley), Dennis (Colleen), daughter-in-law Laurie, as well as 12 grandchildren & 13 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was proceeded by her husband Joseph, her son, Kevin and baby Theresa, as well as all of 11 siblings.
Mom loved children. As a young girl she taught in a one room school. She paused her career to raise her family of five. In her forties she returned to University to upgrade her teaching qualifications. Mom then taught school in Handel, her hometown. She was much loved by her students, one of them being her son, and many nieces and nephews. Her students could often be found baking cookies with her on week ends.
Mom also loved to travel and explore, which led her to Germany, Mexico, various States and the Maritimes and numerous camping trips with her family.
Donations may be made in mom’s honour to The Heart & Stroke Foundation. A Funeral Service for Freda will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 10:30AM at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Unity, SK.
