GWENDOLYN FRANCIS Obituary

Gwendolyn (Cara) Francis (nee Scott)

February 14, 1934 – May 30, 2021 (age 87)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Gwendolyn Cara (Scott) Francis of Rutland, Sask on May 30, 2021 at the age of 87.

Gwen grew up with one brother, John, in the Choiceland area.  She met and married Allan Francis and they shared a deep and abiding love, as well as a wonderful and successful partnership running a mixed farming operation.  Gwen served briefly in the Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Legion was a large part of her life.  She was very active in community service through the Legion and was honored as well to take part in Remembrance Day services.  Allan and Gwen together had a very busy and active social life.  They loved dancing and belonged to all of the community dance clubs.  They also enjoyed a great social life with neighbors, family and friends. Gwen was an accomplished cook and loved to entertain friends and family with a beautiful table and theme dinners.  Allan and Gwen had a great love for their grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and spent as much time as they could with each of them to form a strong and loving bond.

Gwen was very creative, had many interests and a lifelong love of learning.  She did Artex painting and ceramic classes for many years.  She was a great seamstress and taught sewing lessons through Community College bringing her knowledge to many communities in Saskatchewan.  Her talents were many and her family and friends have many special projects lovingly made by her from knitting to sewing to bears made from many fabrics and furs.  Gwen enjoyed life on the farm gardening, mowing lawn and maintained a keen interest in the farm when it was taken over by her daughter Della after the death of Allan.  She also enjoyed many winters going south to Arizona with her daughter Carol and son-in-law Dennis.  Gwen had a zest for life, a big spirit and was always ready to share a smile, laugh, joke or story with one and all.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Gwen leaves to mourn her daughters – Della Purser and Carol (Dennis) Goll – and her daughter-in-law, Debbie (Dave Hollman); her grandchildren – Christine Moncrieff (Chris Battersby), Jeanette (Lance) Wagner, Stephen (Sandy) Moncrieff, Dwight Francis, Leanne (Ryan) Partington; and her great-grandchildren – Chase, Megan (Christine); Danica, Eric, Kadia (Jeanette); Jessica, Taelah (Steven); Leighton, Ty, Rhett, Kort and Quinn (Leanne).

Gwen remained in her home on the farm until a month before her passing.  She passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer in the Unity Union Hospital where she was cared for with love and compassion.

Gwen was predeceased by her loving husband Allan, her cherished son David, and her much-loved brother John Scott.
