GERALD MERVIN TOMCHEK
Gerald Tomchek passed away November 16th, 2022 at RUH in Saskatoon, a short time after his pancreatic cancer diagnosis with his loving wife Faye by his side.
Gerald was pre-deceased by parents Mary (Wirchenko) & Alex Tomchek, first wife Cathy Tomchek (Bylyna). He is survived by siblings Wilf (Pat) Tomchek, Darleen (Lyle) Warren, and Marilyn (Dale) Demetroff, his wife Faye Tomchek (Kalinowski), son Devin (Julie) Tomchek, daughter Tara (Danny) Mantyka, stepsons JD (Sabrina) Kalinowski and Keith Kalinowski, grandchildren Kalem, Hudson, Abigail, Van, Kyle, Jade & Blaze.
Jerry was born May 14th, 1946 in Borden, Sk. He was raised on the family farm near Arelee, Sk. In his early 20’s, he moved to Saskatoon where he worked for Quick Delivery Service. During his time in Saskatoon, he met his first love Cathy. Marriage, employment with the RM of Eagle Creek and the desire to be close to home was the reason for the move to Arelee in 1973. Devin was born in 1976 and a few years later they made the move to the family homestead, this was followed by the birth of their daughter Tara in 1979. He was a hard-working farmer, a loving husband and father. Following the passing of his wife Cathy, Jerry did a tremendous job raising his two children as a single dad while balancing the stresses & workload of farm life throughout the years.
In the late 1990’s, Jerry met his next and final love, Faye Kalinowski. In 1999 he moved to Perdue. Jerry and Faye married in 2000. They enjoyed many years of travel and camping while Jerry continued to work on the farm. As farm life began to slow down, their love for travel and warm weather led to the purchase of a vacation home in Yuma, Arizona in 2012 where they spent their winters. He loved the simplicity of sitting in the yard with his dog on his lap and enjoying the fresh fruit. He also enjoyed the phone calls back to Saskatchewan to check on the winter weather. For the past few years, they spent the summer months at their Emma Lake trailer site, where he thoroughly enjoyed a morning coffee, an afternoon nap, and an evening fire with family and friends.
Jerry will be remembered as a kind-hearted man with a big laugh and a tiny bit of stubbornness. Always up for coffee and conversation, never missing an opportunity to share a story (or two). He will be dearly missed by friends and family.
A celebration of Gerald’s life will take place in the spring of 2023 with further details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency & the Perdue Arena.
