Gladys Vera Mae Kelly Obituary

The family of Gladys Vera Mae Kelly lost their matriarch on November 17th, 2024. She lived a long, fulfilling life right up to her 92nd year. Gladys was born in Goodeve on April 4, 1932 and grew up in Brock. She accelerated in learning and graduated early, moving onto Normal School in Saskatoon to further her studies. Her eventual placement in Unity was fruitful culminating in a successful career as a Kindergarten educator and Catholic school board trustee. Most importantly she met and wed local farmer Brian (Guy) Kelly, with whom she shared 38 years. She was an unlikely “farm” wife. Even so, Cook and Guy shared laughs, good friends and a deep devotion to each other. The Kelly’s raised their children to value family above all else. Gladys had a significant impact on the lives of her grandchildren, students and extended family. She held high expectations and was always willing to give support wherever required. She could be found proudly attending sports games, piano recitals and dance competitions. She traveled extensively to be a cheerleader for her younger generation. Her great grandkids christened her GG, a role she fully embraced and strongly nurtured. She will be remembered as a generous aunt to many nieces and nephews.

She was blessed later in her widowed life to meet a second dutiful partner in Maynard Slater. They made the most of their time and took care of one another with admirable affection. She was predeceased by Guy and Maynard, along with her parents Louis and Vera, brother Ross, sisters Rose, Marion, Pearl and Vivian, and her in-laws William and Madge. She touched many people on her journey, and we celebrate the strong role model she became to her clan and community. Gladys’ children Doyle (Lorna), Candice (Dale +), Patrick (Nicole) and Wendy (Kent) will carry on her legacy in their children and grandbabies.

To be loved by her was all encompassing, and for that, she will be sorely missed.
