Janet Lee (Cornish) Moncrieff

Janet Lee (Cornish) Moncrieff passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital on June 19, 2026. Janet leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Stanley, and their children Tracy (Brent); Kelby, Grayson, Branson; Karen (Richard); Michael (Jenn); Maddy, Emmett, Silas; sister: Clarissa; brother-in-law Grant (Sharon) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by her parents Myron and Leola Cornish and brother-in-law Gerald McLean.

Janet grew up in the small tight knit district of Long Lake, just west of Senlac.  A happy childhood was shared with her sister, many cousins, and school friends. In winter, it was sleigh rides, skating parties, and indoor table games. In summer it was picnics and swimming at the lakes.  She attended school at Long Lake up to grade 5, Senlac School to grade 12 and Teacher’s College in Saskatoon. She taught at Lloydminster, North Battleford, Hillmond and Paynton.

Although her chosen occupation was teacher, her true vocation was one of homemaker. Family was her greatest treasure, and she found immense joy in bringing loved ones together and creating lasting memories. She lived a life marked by love, kindness, and patience, creating a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering support. Janet was especially known for her homemade buns, soft gingerbread cookies, and baked beans. She welcomed family and friends around her table, often creating notable holiday settings with the many tablecloths she collected. Janet had a sweet tooth and believed that nearly every dessert was improved with a scoop of ice cream, regardless of the flavor. She especially enjoyed campfire-toasted marshmallows, made even sweeter when prepared by one of her grandchildren.

Rarely without a camera in hand, Janet documented the story of her family. From camping adventures and sunny vacations to seniors' bus tours, celebrations, and everyday moments, she captured life as it unfolded – all except for one vacation when her beloved camera was lost to the ocean. Janet was also the family's historian, devoting countless hours to researching ancestry, recording family stories, and preserving memories through scrapbooks filled with photographs and keepsakes. Scrapbooking her memories was as enjoyable as the events themselves.

Music was another of Janet's many gifts. She enjoyed playing the piano, sharing her love of music with her children. Janet faithfully remembered the birthdays of family and friends, often reaching out with a card or phone call. She also enjoyed treasure hunting at garage sales, where she often found the perfect item. Many a family member and friend have been the recipient of her quirky finds.

Janet will be lovingly remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and welcoming nature. Through her kindness, generosity, and steadfast love, she left a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her. A note found on the coffee table after she passed left her final thoughts – life is a journey of memories.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
