Johanna Gruber Obituary

Johanna Gruber (nee Greenwald) was born February 16, 1932 and died at the age of 91 on November 21, 2023. She was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and was raised on a farm near the town of Scott, Saskatchewan. As well as helping out on the family farm, when Johanna got older, she started working for several people around Scott mostly doing housekeeping and childcare. Through friends and family connections, Johanna met her future husband, Frank Gruber from Leipzig, and they were married on October 28th, 1953. Frank and Johanna were blessed to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary just a few weeks prior to Johanna’s passing. Johanna and Frank moved onto a farm 2 miles south of Leipzig and worked together there for over 40 years raising a family of seven children. Johanna was an amazing homemaker. Her cooking and baking skills were second to none. She was also an incredibly creative and skillful seamstress. She loved to sew clothes, and later on to make beautiful dolls, doll clothes and teddy bears for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Johanna was a wonderful homemaker but in her later years on the farm, she grew to love harvest time and being out with Frank in the field driving either the combine or the grain truck. After many successful years of farming Johanna and Frank built a house in Battleford and enjoyed many happy years of retirement. They especially enjoyed golfing at Jackfish Lake in the summers and curling with other seniors in the winters. Eventually they moved to a retirement home where they enjoyed being with the other residents and getting visits from their many family members. Johanna is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frank; Son Vic Gruber (Barb)of Airdrie, AB, and children Dwayne; Jennifer (Wes) McKearney, children Austin, Alexis, and Aidan; and Jeff, son Alex; Daughter Pat (Brian) Revet of Warman, SK, and children Terri (Dave) Cey, children Brendan, Cameron, Jayden and Damon; Travis (Michelle) Weber, children Ronin and Samantha; Todd Weber; Rebecca (Sean) McElligott, children Matt and Kristin; Andrea (Tyler) Revet; MacKenzie Revet; Daughter-in-Law Laurie Gruber of Ottawa, ON, and children Melissa (Kayle), daughter Delta, and Zach; Son Clarence (Bonnie) Gruber of Spruce Grove, AB, and children Andrew, Garrett, and Hannah; Son Norman (Carolyn) Gruber of Calgary, AB, and children Ben (Colleen); Kirsty, Patrick and Mark; Daughter Colette (Glen) Frehlich of Wilkie, SK, and son Brad (Sara) son Carter; Son Darrell (Lori) Gruber of Leipzig, SK, and children Jill (Cole) Guenter, children Gracie, Ava, and Griffin; Chelsea (Derek) Sutherland, children Jaxon and Lainey; Jolene (Stephen) McLane; son Samuel; Amy. She is also survived by her brother Matt (Mary) Greenwald; sister-in-laws Hilda Ulrich and Muriel Gruber and brother-in laws, Allan Merkowsky and Fr. George Gruber as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Johanna was predeceased by her son Gerry, her brother Peter Greenwald, her sister-in-laws Anne Greenwald and Rita Merkowsky, and her brother-in-laws Joe Gruber and Don Ulrich. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, care aides and staff at the retirement home for all their compassion and excellent care.
