Joyce Rita (Thomas) Sutherland

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce.

Joyce Rita Sutherland passed away peacefully on Aug 3, 2023 at the age of 82. She was born in Wilkie to John & Agatha Thomas on May 30, 1941. She attended school at Moose Park, high school at McLurg and then worked for several years in a few restaurants in Wilkie and North Battleford until marrying Barry Sutherland on November 3, 1962. Joyce has 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Joyce began work at Poplar Courts Nursing Home in 1976 until her retirement in 2004.  Joyce enjoyed looking after her beloved grandchildren, creating cherished memories with each of them as she passed along her cooking and baking skills that many people have had the pleasure of enjoying. Joyce was an avid volunteer with the CWL receiving her 50 year pin this past spring. She spent many years organizing and running the used clothing store in the church basement.

Joyce is lovingly remembered by her husband Barry; son Duane; son Greg (Joanne) family Brittney (Garrett) Lange, Derek (Chelsea) Jaxan and Lainey, Megan (Nick) Gutting; Angie (Matt) McCashion, family Eric and Katelyn; brother Alfred Thomas; sister Loretta (Webster) Haugen; sister-in-laws Marleen Del Casino, Joyce Thomas: brother-in-law Royce Sutherland and numerous nieces & nephews.

Joyce was predecease by her parents John and Agatha Thomas; brothers Leo Thomas, Ray Thomas and Alvin Thomas; parents-in-law Rod and Eva Sutherland; sister-in-laws Gloria Thomas, Darlene Sutherland, Laverne Thomas and Ginger Sutherland; and nephew Shaun Sutherland.

A Funeral Service for Joyce will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 10:30AM at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Wilkie, SK.
