MARY THELMA (HEWSON) BIGGART

April 3, 1936 ~ May 13, 2021 (age 85)

Obituary

Mary Thelma Biggart (nee Hewson)

April 3, 1936 – May 13, 2021

Mary was born to Gladys and Russell Hewson on April 3, 1936.  She attended Thule School, finished high school at Battleford Collegiate and then graduated as a Registered Nurse from the General Hospital of Nursing at Dauphin, Manitoba.

In 1958, Mary married Lynn Biggart and farmed in the Wardenville District having 3 daughters, Laurie, Debbie and Tammie.  Three years ago, she moved off the family farm to Parkview Place at Unity.  This became her “new home” where she enjoyed fellowship and the activities offered.

Throughout the years, Mary was involved with community activities, 4-H, Sask. Shorthorn Association, Sask. Flying Farmers, Embroidery Guild, Cut Knife United Church, and Farmer’s Market – to name a few.  Baking, sewing, gardening and ‘recycling’ was just an everyday occurrence for her.  The cold room held hundreds of jars of preserves!  Freezers were always full!  This was shared with everyone.

Family and farming were her life!  She loved attending, and later on seeing pictures/videos, of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.  Her loving smile welcomed Tarilie and Whitney during their last visit this past week.  Right to the end, she was checking how Anthony and Nicklaus were making out seeding and moving cattle.

A woman of few words, she taught us how to accept situations, and move forward.

She was our mentor – our Mom, Grandma and friend!  Her legacy will live on through her family!

Mary is lovingly survived by daughters Laurie Pernitsky and Debbie Biggart, grandchildren and great grandchildren Nicklaus (Skye), Kaden, Taryn, Mailey and Branlin Pernitsky, Tarilie (Jordan), Nolan and Natalya Thomas, Whitney (Brennen) Dutchak, Anthony (Stacey), Hilary and Deacon Pernitsky, sister Ferne Coe, sisters-in-law Joyce Hewson and June Rothwell, and brother-in-law Leonard Bertrand.

She was predeceased by husband Lynn, daughter Tammie, son-in-law Rob Pernitsky, parents Gladys and Russell Hewson, siblings and in-laws Ralph Hewson, Dorothy (Ottar) Veikle, Stan Hewson, Shirley (Reno) Bertoia, Ardagh Coe, Byrnne Rothwell, Mae Bertrand and great nephew Bradley Hewson.
