Malcom Bowker
1947 – 2023
Malcom Bowker, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2023, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, surrounded by his family.
“Mac,” as he was known, was born December 20, 1947, to his parents Kenneth and Celia Bowker, in Unity Saskatchewan. He grew up on the family farm north of Unity. Mac was the youngest child. He had two older siblings, brother Barry, and sister Jeanne.
He graduated from Unity High School and then attended the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a degree in Engineering. After graduating he worked as an engineer in both Estevan and Regina. However, after a few years he realized that the office 9 to 5 life was not for him, so he returned to the farm in Unity and farmed with his parents in 1972.
Mac enjoyed hunting, and tinkering in the shop. He was a good listener and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Mac and his first wife Carol raised their two children, Jill and Curtis, on their farm in Unity. In 2006, as Mac and Carol were planning to retire from farming, Carol passed away suddenly. In 2008 Mac married Della Hayward. Mac and Della have enjoyed many years of retirement since. Together they have enjoyed lots of camping trips, visits to family and friends across Canada, and frequent trips to the family farm that Mac’s son Curtis and his wife Carmen now operate.
Mac is survived by his spouse Della, sister Jeanne, daughter Jill (Lyle), son Curtis (Carmen), step-son Clinton (Becky), step-son Allister (Stephanie); eight grandchildren: Carolanna, Lydia, Danielle, Chenae, Anastasia, Alexander, Teagan, and Kaela; and numerous nephews and nieces. Mac was predeceased by his wife Carol; parents Kenneth and Celia, step-mother Vi; and his older brother Barry.
A public celebration of life will be held on Wednesday August 8th at the Unity United Church. He will be interred at the Unity Pleasant View Cemetery.
