It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Odelia Zimmer (nee Vetter) on February 26th, 2022 at the Unity Long Term Care Home. She was 90 years old.
Margaret was born in Denzil, Saskatchewan on May 13th, 1931 to John and Regina Vetter and raised on the family farm northeast of Denzil.
Margaret married Albert Zimmer on October 27th, 1955 in Denzil and they moved to the Zimmer family farm east of Luseland where they farmed, gardened and raised their family.
Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gail Mageean, Greg Zimmer, Melvin (Cheryl) Zimmer, Brenda (Laramie) Martfeld, Alan Zimmer, Colleen (Greg) Bick, Nancy Zimmer; grandchildren Katrina, Alexis, Wyatt Martfeld (Pirita Mattola), Sarah (Rene) Lachance, Patrick Mageean, Daniel (Danielle) Zimmer, Maria (Nicolas) Korol, Jonathan Zimmer, Erin Bick; and great-grandchildren Tala, Foalan Lachance, Luke, Leo, Eden Zimmer, Rebecca, Anna Korol; her sister Angela Freson; sisters-in-law Madeline Vetter, Regina Vetter and Rose Vetter; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Albert Zimmer; her parents John and Regina Vetter; older brothers George, Adam, Alois, Balzar, Alphonse and John; sisters Helen Vetter, Mary Sorge, sisters-in-law Verna and Elizabeth Vetter; brothers-in-law Rudy Sorge and Ted Freson.
Mom had a strong faith and a strong sense of duty. Although she enjoyed her work at the bank before she married, she quit and moved to the farm to start a family. Five children in five years, followed eventually by two more took care of that! The years flew by with full days of cooking, cleaning, gardening, preserving, child rearing, and instilling both faith and wisdom in us, especially through repeated phrases like "Offer it up!," "One does what one can," and, of course, the ever popular "You gotta watch!" Mom still found time to host and visit back in the days where friends and family often stopped in unannounced, and she had a sense of humor, for example the time she woke dad from an afternoon nap pretending the brooder house was on fire, just to see his reaction!
Mom watched mass on TV and prayed many rosaries nearly every day of her roughly 10 years at Parkview assisted living home after Dad's passing, and four years in Long Term Care. She had loved singing in choir in her youth and always took an active roll in celebrating the sacraments with her children, as well as CWL functions. She died peacefully, knowing she would join Dad and her extended family in the eternal company of the saints and angels.
