Marguerite Marie (de Bussac) Wapple

Following a long and courageous battle with cancer, Marguerite Marie Thérèse Wapple passed away peacefully in Palliative Care at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on August 16, 2026, at the age of 91.

“Bouzie” as she was known to many, was seventh and final child born to Marie Antoinette and Joseph de Bussac.
Surviving are her sons Guy (Sandra) of Saskatoon, Gerald of Edmonton and Robert of Medicine Hat.

“Nana”/”Gigi” is also survived by her precious grandchildren who were the light of her life: Morgan (Joel), Brandon and Galen, as well as great-grandchildren Zoe and Henry.
She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, who also were near and dear to her heart.
Marguerite was predeceased by her husband Allan in 1992 and son Rodney in 1993. 

Mom was also predeceased by her parents Joseph and Marie; sister Martha (brother-in-law, Albert); brother George; brother Hervie (sister-in-law, Elvera); brother Charlie (sister-in-law, Yolande); brother Michel (sister-in-law, Pauline) and brother Frank (sister-in-law, Lenore).
Mom was born in Biggar on January 29, 1935.
She grew up on the farm, 16 kms west of Biggar, in the Lydden/now Duperow district.
As a young girl, Mom developed a deep love for all animals, especially horses.
She later attended Conway School, before finishing her education at St. Gabriel’s School in Biggar.
Marguerite and Allan Wapple were married at St. Gabriel’s Church on August 8, 1956.
They were blessed with four boys: Guy in 1957, Gerald in 1959, Rodney in 1961 and finally Robert in 1968.
With Dad frequently “on the road” with the good, old CNR, needless to say, Mom’s job of raising four busy little boys was often a challenge. 
Among her many talents, Bouzie was an excellent homemaker and cook. You never left her house hungry!

She was also an excellent hostess. While growing up, we remember many of the raucous and fun parties that Mom and Dad threw.
Mom had a deep and abiding faith in God. She was very active in St. Gabriel’s parish, the choir, the CWL, as well as countless fall suppers through the decades.
Mom believed in giving back and was heavily involved in Biggar community activities.

Due to a bad toboggan accident in her teens, Mom would eventually undergo an almost unbelievable EIGHT back operations!!!

While some of these were more serious than others, Mom still managed to be a very competitive curler back in the day. Her chief rivals during this time were Muriel Dueker, Nettie Beckett and Shirley Schmirler.
After raising her four boys, Mom returned to the workforce.

She spent several years at the Biggar Bakery with our good friends, Carmelina and Ernie Spadafora.

Mom then finished her career at de Moissac Jewellers, before retiring at age 65.

She also made history in 1978, when she became the very first woman elected to Biggar Town Council.

Mom was re-elected several times, before finally stepping back in 1997, after 19 years of community service.

Mom also was the Chairperson of the Biggar Homecoming Committee in 1980. 
In her usual “let’s get this done” style, Mom managed to convince 20 other women to join her in this huge undertaking.
While it was a very time-consuming job, we know that deep-down, Mom took great satisfaction in organizing that most successful event.
We also know that Mom thoroughly enjoyed her involvement in the NCCP musical productions over the years. The fun and camaraderie those productions provided brought her great joy.
Mom’s love of sports continued throughout her long life, especially cheering on ‘The Riders.’ She attended many games at Taylor Field with Rob, as well as Carmelina, Ernie, Dave and Angela. Later, she became a big Blue Jays fan too.
Mom loved to travel. 
Included in her many adventures, were three trips to Europe, plus visits to Mexico, Hawaii, Cuba, the U.S., not to mention several memorable trips to Victoria with “The Butler Girls”: Eileen, Betty and Ede.
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the numerous epic Wapple/Griswold vacations to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia.

We usually only drove from Biggar to Calgary the first day, to spend time with our Uncle Frank, Aunt Lenore, plus cousins Frank, Jr. and Suzanne.

From there, it was winding our way through the sometimes treacherous Rockies – with ALWAYS a stop at the CPR ‘Spiral Tunnels’ – where eventually we would meet up with our wonderful B.C.-based family friends, the Ollingers.

With John and Neila – along with their kids Stephen and Christine – we explored virtually every campground between Armstrong and Osoyoos.

Having said that, we usually spent most of our adventurous, fun times together in the Penticton area.
After spending 48 years at 416-7th Avenue West, Mom decided the house and yard were becoming too much for her.

As a result, in early September of 2014, she took the plunge and was one of the first residents to move into the brand-new Central Park Place condo building on the east end of town. 
We enjoyed many wonderful visits to suite 307 over the next ten years. Although unsure at first, Mom soon grew to love condo living and the wonderful friendships she made there.

In September of 2024, unfortunately Mom’s health began to decline.

We then moved her into Saskatoon, where she soon took up residence in ‘The Bentley’ on Acadia Drive.

In spite of several hospital stays, Mom made many new friends during her time there, not to mention entertaining many Biggar visitors in Suite 167.

To sum things up, Mom was probably best-known for her outgoing personality. She always had a ready smile and laughed easily. 
Having said all that, she also possessed a stubborn side, a direct product of her French upbringing!
Nana/Gigi loved spending time with her three grandchildren, spoiling them at every opportunity.

This tradition carried on when great-grands Zoe and Henry were born.
We love you to the moon and back, Mom and are glad you’re no longer suffering…

A special thank you to all the Homecare Nurses who visited Mom in ‘The Bentley’, helping extend her life.

We’d also like to thank the Nurses both in RUH ‘Emerg,’ as well as the Palliative Staff at St. Paul’s Hospital for the compassion they showed Mom during her final few days.
