It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman John Potter of Unity, SK on April 1, 2021 at the age of 77. Norm was born on October 5, 1943 in Gull Lake, SK where he attended school and met the love of his life and future wife, Joyce MacDonald. Norm and Joyce were married July 11, 1964 and enjoyed a family life full of camping, fishing, and skiing with their two children. Norm was a dedicated Co-op employee o f 3 5 years, spending 22 of those as General Manager at the Delta Co-op in Unity where he retired in 2004. During retirement Norm enjoyed volunteer work, fishing, golfing, curling and traveling the world with Joyce. Norm leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Joyce of 56 years; son Brad (Nadine) Potter and family Alec, Maya, and Quinn; daughter Leita (Darren) and family Kirstyn and Kienna; brother Les (Bev) Potter; sisters Karen Messer (Doug Murchie) and Phyllis (Larry) Thornton, brothers in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and friends. Norm was predeceased by his parents Chignell and Laura Potter, parents-in-law Vern and Marie MacDonald, brother-in-law Hilliard Messer and nephews Kyle MacDonald and Trevor Collier. A private family Celebration of Life for Norm was held on April 10, 2021 at the Unity United Church with Minister Gary Johnson officiating and assisted by Verna Kocski, Irene Thiessen-Campbell playing organ, eulogy conducted by children Brad Potter and Leita Elder, readers and tributes spoken by the grandchildren, honorary urn bearers were all those who shared in Norm’s life, and an honour guard held by the Unity Kilwinning Mason Lodge #73. Norm will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends. For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made in Norm’s memory to the “Unity and District Health Center Long Term Care Activities Fund”.

A special thank you to Dr. Bloem for her kindness, compassion and care towards Norm and our family during such a difficult time and to the wonderful staff on both the acute care and long term care sides of the Unity Health Centre. Thank you to Minister Gary Johnson and Verna Kocski for the hospital visits and officiating the beautiful Celebration of Life to honor Norm, as well as to Irene Thiessen-Campbell for providing the lovely music. To the Unity-Kilwinning Mason Lodge #73, Norm would have been very pleased with the Honor Guard and the Masonic Ceremony you provided for him.
