Norman Tebb Obituary

Norman Tebb, age 83, passed away on June 3, 2022 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK.

Norman was born on July 16, 1938, in Biggar, SK, to Charles and Marilla Tebb. He was the only boy with 6 sisters, Muriel (d. 2014), Pat (d. 2000), Ellen (d. 1997), Betty (d. 1998), Frances, and Irene (Richard). He has always placed family first and was a wonderful and supportive brother.

In 1951, at the age of 13, Norman started his career with the CNR as a call boy and became a conductor in 1956.  If you knew Norm, you knew that he was a “train man” through and through. It was a career that had him on the tracks many days and nights, but even when we was home he couldn’t tear himself away, spending many hours at the train station analyzing the schedule board. He served as the secretary for the local United Transportation Union 1230, and helped many widows from other “train men” complete paperwork to secure their pensions. He would retire in 1991 after a 40 year career.

Norman is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Iris. A man destined to be surrounded by women, he and Iris had three daughters; Cindy (d. 2017) (Doug), Trudy (Dale), and Nicky (Stephen). He was a dedicated father, with Iris, raising his daughters with love, patience, and discipline.

Ever the devoted family man, Norman was blessed with 6 grandchildren; Jennifer (Garrett), Stephanie (Clinton), Stewart (d. 2000), Casey (Emillia), Toby, and Jake; and 6 great-grandchildren; Kate, Cole, Paige, Simon, Austin, and Averi. He was a very involved grandparent and great-grandparent, always showing up to school and extracurricular activities, driving kids to and from school, picking up some timbits to enjoy, available to give advice or to share a laugh, sharing an ice cream cone or sundae, and doing anything else that could possibly be needed or wanted.

Norman didn’t have many hobbies – his family and friends were his hobbies. Whether it was helping Iris in the garden (driving her crazy); playing taxi to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends; helping out at RaceTrac; visiting friends or family at the Lodge; looking after everyone’s house whenever they needed (and even when you didn’t); being available for a FaceTime, phone call, or visit; and so many more things.

If there was a hobby he had, it was his garage – a place filled to the brim with things both useful and not; but it was a place where memories were made and stored. It is through these memories in the garage, van, living room, kitchen table, or on the sidewalk downtown that he will be remembered.

A man like you is rare, one that is so kind and giving.
A man like you is what we all need, full of laughter and always doing what he can for those around him.
Nothing can ever replace a man like you, but when you get to heaven,
Cindy and Stewart will be there to welcome you and be so grateful to have you back.
A man like you will never be forgotten.

A graveside service will take place at the Biggar Memorial Cemetery on June 16, 2022 at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Biggar New Horizons.
