Ruth Agar (Warkentin/Peters)
Ruth (Warkentin) was born on December 13, 1925 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota and passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022 at St. Mary’s Long-Term Care, Trochu, AB.
Growing up on a farm, Ruth learned about the bonds of family, the toil of hard work and the love of God. Early in life she committed herself to serving and loving others as demonstrated in raising a family, teaching young children and caring for those less fortunate. On June 20, 1952, she married Pete Peters and moved to Saskatoon, first working in the Home for the Deaf then raising a family of 5 children. Ruth devoted herself to her family as a homemaker, excelling in teaching her children and caring for her husband. She was a noted seamstress and cook, able to make the most of the resources she had. Her special call was to teach young children in Sunday School, doing this for close to 40 years. On February 2, 1981, Pete unexpectedly died and Ruth carried on with 2 children at home, now also having to be employed outside the home in order to sustain a living.
From this marriage she is survived by children, Kevin (Sharon) Peters, Sharlene Peters, Julie (Dwight) Lozowchuk, Loren Peters, Heather (Bill) Alles, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and brother Leonard. She is predeceased by parents Dietrich and Tina Warkentin, husband Pete, sisters Adilla, Matilda, Mary, and Helen, and brothers Reuben (twin) and David.
In 1988, Ruth was introduced to Cuyler Agar, a recent widower. From this budding romance, they were married on December 29, 1988 in Saskatoon, SK and made their home in Unity, SK. which was home to Cuyler. She enjoyed the horizons of this new relationship in becoming a mom and grandmother to Cuyler’s family. Travel, camping, hockey games and solid friendships became the joy of their lives as she easily extended her love to her new family. On July 22, 2017, Cuyler passed away and Ruth made the decision to live closer to her first family members. She moved into a lodge in Three Hills, AB. and here too, enjoyed new friendships and renewed family acquaintance.
From this marriage she is survived by children, Lorna (Joe) Orr, Janice (Lorne) Friesen, Gordon (Darlene) Agar, Hazel (Peter) Daniel, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by husband Cuyler.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00pm, July 4, 2022 at Unity Baptist Church, Unity, SK. Pastor Ron Rutley officiating.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Saskatoon, SK on July 5, 2022 at 11:00am.
