William Roenspies Obituary

Bill Roenspies was born on December 28, 1955 at St. Elizabeth hospital in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He was the fifth child born to Aurea (Desjardins) and Bud (Leverne) Roenspies.

Bill attended Hat Creek School for Grade 1 then completed his schooling at Laurier School in Annaheim, Saskatchewan where he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. He and his siblings spent hours skating and snowmobiling, participating in the 4-H Beef Club and doing the necessary farm chores.

Shortly after graduating from high school in 1973, he moved to Winnipeg with two high school buddies. There he worked as a labourer and bought his first car- a pink, 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger. In 1974 his Uncle Peewee (Walter), who worked in construction at the IPSCO plant in Regina, offered him a job. This opportunity began his career as an iron worker, gaining his Iron Worker Journeyman's certificate in 1976.

In 1978 he met Louise Mosiondz. They were engaged three months later and married on May 12, 1979. They moved to the family farm where they welcomed their daughter Lindsay in August 1981. In the fall of 1981, they moved to Lanigan where he worked on the PCS Lanigan Potash Mine with his brother, Kurt.

Bill's construction career took him to jobs in Regina, Estevan, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Outlook and Prince Albert. His experiences led him to attain his Welding Journeyman certificate in 1995. In 1997 the family moved to Biggar, Saskatchewan where Bill worked at the Prairie Malt Plant as its journeyman welder until his retirement in 2023.

Bill became part of the rescue crew at the plant and volunteered with the local Fire Department as a way to integrate into the community. He volunteered with the Department from 1999-2021. In 2000 he joined the EMS team and drove ambulance for 25 years while continuing his day job at Prairie Malt. He retired in November 2024. In October 2025, Bill received an Exemplary Service Medal for Emergency Medical Services from the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.

Bill never lost his connection to farming and relished driving grain carts or combines for his farmer friends. He enjoyed playing rec hockey for years. He and Louise spent many good times with their friends - during the winter, snowmobiling; during the summer, spending time at the lake. Bill belonged to the Lanigan Car Club for years. He LOVED his cars - the Dart, the Trans Am and the Camero. He LOVED his motorcycle, riding the curved highways and he LOVED his sleds (he never called them ski dos), racing over snowy fields. Bill and Louise enjoyed travel especially with close friends - most recently a three-month adventure to the East Coast of Canada.

Bill appreciated good music, a passion he shared with their daughter Lindsay. He didn't travel anywhere without his Classic Rock playlist. They attended many rock concerts together. Lindsay also shares his love of riding, his love of snowmobiling, and his love of good food.

Bill passed away peacefully at the Biggar hospital on November 20th with his family at his side. He is predeceased by his parents, Bud and Aurea Roenspies, his nephew, Dean Messmer and his oldest sister, Ruth.

Left to honour his memory and celebrate his life are his wife Louise (Mosiondz), his daughter Lindsay, his siblings: Sandra (Jack) Hollenberg (Langenburg), Sid Roenspies (Langenburg), Jan (Don) Layh (Langenburg), Kurt (Marylee) Roenspies (Meadow Lake) and Cindy (Ron) Ballo (New York); his parents in law: Mike and Leona Mosiondz; his brothers-in-law:

Lyle (Kelly) Mosiondz and Darrell (Brigitta) Mosiondz. Also left to honour his memory are numerous nieces and nephews.
